Statement of Faith
Since most Christians operate under Constitutions and Basis’ of Faith they have never ever read, or could not care less about, we will not waste our time cobbling together an articulate and impressive bundle of words to impress the easily impressionable.
We like the Churches Together basis and the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith and the Anglican 39 articles of faith are impressive. Read them. We also like the words carved into Broadcasting House. Read them and weep for what others in the BBC have done to ‘Jerusalem’ and England’s green and pleasant land.
Jesus said, ‘love one another’. John Lennon said that ‘love is the answer’. Trouble is we could spend a lifetime discussing what love is.
Nevertheless, love is what Bound Together is about.
Our statement of faith is ‘love’.
Our love for Jesus and His love for us.
1 Cor 13 is where we are heading, but like most folk although we know the Biblical instruction, the basis of faith, the constitution and ‘the way’, we get waylaid by ‘church’ and its politics and the doctrinal soup and hurts and resentments and confusions.
It’s much easier to assume a higher spiritual knowledge than our contemporaries that annoy us and ‘love’ them from a distance that doesn’t require actually loving them at all. We pray the words but our heart is far from the forgiveness, the generosity and the caring.
The reason that man has made Christianity so complicated and diverse is because it stretches his intellect and provides the escape from the simple act of loving those he cannot even bring himself to talk to.
Man creates a dogma and a doctrine that provides him with a clear conscience for not loving.
Jesus wants you to love me and me to love you. It’s perhaps too simple.
